"Law & Order: SVU" has had a much more stable cast over its lifetime than its parent "Law & Order," but some turnover is on the way.
Two of the show's regulars, Adam Beach and Diane Neal, will depart the nine-year-old series at the end of the season. Beach joined the show this season after guesting a couple of times last season, while Neal has been with the series since 2003.
"Law & Order" mastermind Dick Wolf sounds sanguine about Beach's departure, calling him a "superb actor." "He did a terrific job this season on 'SVU,' and I look forward to working with him again in the near future," Wolf tells The Hollywood Reporter. Neal has played Assistant District Attorney Casey Novak for the past five seasons. Her character will make way for a new ADA next season. (Zap2it.com)
Real competition is coming to reality TV: Hosts including Ryan Seacrest, Howie Mandel and Tyra Banks are now eligible for an Emmy Award.
A category recognizing "outstanding host for a reality or reality-competition program" was created by the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences and will be presented at the 60th annual Emmys in September.
The award recognizes that reality TV has become "an integral part of television and our culture," John Shaffner, chairman and CEO of the TV academy, said in a statement Tuesday.
Eligibility is open to hosts of programs entered in the reality program and reality-competition categories. Sorry, Simon Cowell: The award isn't for "reactive participants or judges," the academy rules state. (Associated Press)
Three years after tying the knot in a spectacular, over-the-top affair that caused some backlash, Star Jones has decided to end her marriage to banker Al Reynolds.
The 46-year-old TV personality quietly filed divorce papers March 26 in New York Supreme Court in Manhattan. The records are sealed, syndicated entertainment show "Entertainment Tonight" reported yesterday, but a representative for Jones confirmed that she is seeking to end the union.
In a statement to "Entertainment Tonight," Jones said: "Several years ago I made an error in judgment by inviting the media into the most intimate area of my life. A month ago I filed for divorce.
"The dissolution of a marriage is a difficult time in anyone's life that requires privacy with one's thoughts. I have committed myself to handling this situation with dignity and grace and look forward to emerging from this period as a stronger and wiser woman."
It's not the approach Jones took when she threw her uber-lavish, Park Avenue wedding to Reynolds in November 2004. She received criticism for endlessly discussing the wedding -- and plugging its sponsors -- as a co-host on ABC's "The View." (AP)
