Q: Ron, Josh Hull has received a lot of criticism lately from the media and fans for his play at middle linebacker? Has he been playing that poorly?

Jim, Hollidaysburg

MUSSELMAN: Hull, a one-time walk-on, may have finally silenced his critics with his performance Saturday against Purdue. He had a career-high 11 tackles, including nine in the first half. Keep in mind, Hull only had 21 tackles in the first five games. He said after the game that he was aware of the criticisms, but didn't pay any attention to them or use them as extra motivation. Coach Joe Paterno and defensive coordinator Tom Bradley also defended Hull, saying he has been solid in his first year as injured starter Sean Lee's replacement in the middle.
