The Penguins signed forward Arron Asham to a one-year contract Friday that is worth $700,000.

At 5-feet-11, 205 pounds, Asham is a 10-year NHL veteran who was originally drafted by Montreal in the third round in 1996. He has also played for Montreal, the New York Islanders and New Jersey. For his career he has scored 82 goals and racked up 818 penalty minutes.

More Penguins

Alain Nasreddine, a popular defenseman during his playing days, has been named an assistant coach with Wilkes-Barre/Scranton, the Penguins' affiliate in the American Hockey League. Nasreddine, 35, spent five of his 15 years in pro hockey with the Penguins organization, mostly in the minor leagues. He has not previously coached. He replaces John Hynes, who was promoted to Wilkes-Barre's head coach when Todd Reirden was promoted to be a Penguins assistant earlier this summer.
