History: Give an A in geography to the original town fathers. West Leechburg is, indeed, west of Leechburg, along a U curve in the Kiskiminetas. And even though the cross-river towns are in different counties -- Leechburg is in Armstrong -- they share a school district.
As with many Western Pennsylvania towns, West Leechburg has a mining history. Nearly a century ago, West Leechburg Steel & Tin Plate Company owned West Leechburg Mine, which was actually in Allegheny Township. There is a memorial to coal miners there.
Mayor Gallucci is president of the Association of Mayors of the Boroughs of Pennsylvania.
