An Evans City man was jailed on charges that he held a woman captive in his mother's basement, where he beat and raped her, leaving her with several broken bones.
Jeremy Michael Flood, 34, was arrested Thursday and was scheduled to be arraigned that day on nine charges in connection with the incident, including aggravated assault, rape, intimidating a victim, terroristic threats and unlawful restraint.
In a criminal complaint, state police Trooper Steven Driscoll said he was called to the emergency room of UPMC Passavant at around 4:15 p.m. on Thursday, where he interviewed the victim. The woman was not identified.
She told Trooper Driscoll that she had been dating Mr. Flood for about four months and that he had gone to his mother's home in Forward Township, Butler County, on Tuesday. Mr. Flood took her phone from her purse and became incensed when he saw that her ex-boyfriend had called her, the woman told police. She said he then pushed her down the stairs to the basement and kicked her, breaking her ankle. When she tried to leave the basement, he would kick her injured ankle.
Police did not say how long she was held in the basement. At one point during her captivity, she told police Mr. Flood raped her and told her that she "deserved it." Another time, he held a folding knife to her neck and told her if she called police he would kill her, her parents and her daughter, she said.
Police did not say when or how she got out of the basement. She suffered several injuries, including the broken ankle, three broken ribs, contusions on her legs and arm and a collapsed lung.
