Sunday, September 05, 2010

Fire crews responded to a fire at the Richard S. Caliguiri Senior High Rise in Allentown tonight, according to a city 911 dispatcher.

Details broadcasted over the police scanner suggested the fire began in a bed in an apartment on the 10th floor of the high rise, which is an apartment building popular with elderly people living on fixed incomes.

Residents were evacuated from the building at 803 East Warrington Avenue after the fire crews responded at about 8:47 p.m. The fire was extinguished by 9:21 p.m., a city dispatcher said.
