U. S. military veterans who live or work in Hampton, or who are graduates of Hampton High School, are invited to complete the Hampton Heroes Form on the school district's website, ht-sd.org.
Those who have completed and returned the form since 2001 are invited to be honored guests at a Veterans Day program at one of the district schools. To date, more than 200 men and women have been inducted as Hampton Heroes and recognized at the Veterans Day program.
From information on the forms, mini-biographies are collected and reproduced in a spiral-bound notebook, which each attendee receives. The stories and photos veterans share in the booklet teach Hampton students valuable lessons about service, duty and sacrifice.
Forms must be completed and returned to the district by Sept. 17. For information, call 412-492-6312.
The Boy Scouts of America will celebrate 100 years of Scouting at Moraine State Park Sept. 24-26. The celebration will limit public access to The South Shore and Bear Run Launch.
More than 10,000 Scouts are expected to attend, and all parking for this event will be directed to the Butler Fairgrounds on Route 422 using the Unionville Road entrance.
Those without proper passes will not be permitted in the South Shore area of the park. The entire North Shore, Porters Cove, Old 422, Davis Hollow Marina and 528 access areas will remain open with no restrictions.
For more information about the celebration, go to www.campaganza.org.
North Hills Community Outreach says it urgently needs volunteers to serve as onboard dispatchers for the Free Rides for Seniors bus. The bus travels weekdays on Freeport Road between Blawnox and Sharpsburg; dispatchers are needed from 12:45 to 4 p.m. Wednesdays and Fridays during September.
A dispatcher takes phone calls from senior citizens in need of rides to the grocery store, hospital, pharmacy, etc., and helps the driver navigate the daily route.
To find out more, call Kerry at the Outreach, 412-449-0151.
Pine Community Center, 100 Pine Park Drive, is offering a free fitness week Monday through Sept. 19. Call 724-625-1636, ext. 3, or visit the front desk to sign up for free demo classes, too.
