Hempfield -- Friends of Millstein Library, on the Greensburg campus of the University of Pittsburgh, are sponsoring "I Thought I Could Fly," a photography exhibit by Carnegie Mellon University professor Charlee Brodsky depicting persons with mental illness, through Oct. 14 at the library at 150 Finoli Drive. South Greensburg -- St. Michael's Orthodox Church, 1182 Ashland St., will hold a festival, including tours and ethnic foods, from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday. Call 724-834-1311.

CLASSES

Oakmont -- Carnegie Library, 700 Allegheny River Blvd., will sponsor three consecutive weeks of Advanced Crochet classes at 6:30 p.m. Tuesdays, beginning Tuesday. Participants must have knowledge of the chain, single and double crochet stitches and will need a size N crochet hook and nine skeins of Lion Brand Homespun yarn, three each of three different colors. Swissvale -- The Pittsburgh Tangueros will sponsor six weeks of Argentine Tango 101 from 4 to 5:30 p.m. Sundays, beginning Sunday, at the Wilkins School Community Center, 7604 Charleston Ave. Cost: $60 in advance, $75 at the door. Information: 412-661-2480.

CONCERTS

Greensburg -- The Westmoreland Cultural Trust will sponsor "Curtain Up," a performance by the River City Brass Band, at 8 p.m. Saturday. Tickets: 1-800-292-7222.

FUNDRAISING

Scottdale -- St. John the Baptist School, 416 S. Broadway Ave., will host "Shopping from the Heart," featuring a number of vendors, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday. LECTURES/SEMINARS

Penn Township -- The Penn-Trafford Area Recreation Commission will sponsor "McClellan's Perfect Battle: The Battle of Antietam," a lecture by Civil War historian Kristopher Douglas White, from 7 to 8:15 p.m. next Thursday at Penn-Trafford High School, 3381 Route 130, as the first in a monthly series. LIBRARIES

MEETINGS

Murrysville -- Symphony East will meet at 11 a.m. Sept. 20 at Redstone Highlands, 4951 Cline Hollow Road. Lunch will be at noon, followed by a program featuring the ensemble Cello Fury. West Newton -- The West Newton Community Festival Committee will sponsor a festival from 5 to 11 p.m. Friday, noon to 11 p.m. Saturday and noon to 6 p.m. Sunday in the area of Vine Street Park and Vine, Fourth and Fifth streets. THEATER

Verona -- The New Olde Bank Theatre, 722 Allegheny River Blvd., will sponsor "Lady Parts: An Evening of Great Female Monologues" at 8 p.m. Friday and Saturday. Tickets cost $15, which will include a wine-and-cheese reception after the performance. Reservations: 412-251-7904.
