Interfaith events this weekend

Several events this weekend mark both the end of the Islam Holy Month of Ramadan and the ninth anniversary of the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center.

They include:

Sept. 10. A celebration of Eid Al-Fitr at Schenley Park beside the oval, hosted by the Islamic Center of Pittsburgh, with communal prayers and activities. Prayers will be held at 9 a.m. Contact 412 330 9252

Sept. 11. The Council on American Islamic Relations' Pittsburgh chapter and the Muslim Community Center of Greater Pittsburgh, a mosque and community center at 233 Seaman Lane, Monroeville, will host an interfaith event to mark solidarity and peaceful healing. The 6 p.m. service will include friends, neighbors, city and county officials and leaders of all faiths.

East Liberty Presbyterian Church is organizing a time of prayer and meditation on Saturday, under the title "May All the Peoples Walk Together; May They Walk in Peace." The church will have several labyrinths available for walking/mediation from 2 to 5 p.m. on that day. At 4 p.m. there will be an interfaith prayer service, with representatives present from the Islamic Center and the mosque, and a liturgy that includes prayers from the Jainist, Sufi, Jewish, Islamic, Native American, Hindu, Buddhist, Bahai and Christian traditions.
