Born in England, Alan Stanford has long made Dublin his home, acting in and directing the Irish greats (Beckett, Synge, Wilde) along with his own adaptations. But the last few years he's been in and out of Pittsburgh, mainly directing for Pittsburgh Irish & Classical Theatre. This summer, that means two plays in PICT's Pinter Celebration (through Aug. 22), to which he brings the experience of having once directed Pinter himself. He talks with senior theater critic Chris Rawson about Pinter, these two plays and much else, and ends with unsolicited praise of the Pittsburgh arts scene that would warm your heart to hear.
